Researchers back African Union’s inclusion in G20

Researchers are advocating for the inclusion of the African Union (AU) in the G20, which is a forum for the world’s largest economic powers to discuss and propose solutions to global issues. Currently, only South Africa represents Africa in the group. The report, ‘Advocating for a G21,’ was launched at a G20 side-event in India and highlights the importance of ethical and moral reasons to include Africa in decision-making. The authors say that Africa’s inclusion would give representation to 54 countries more than the status quo, at the cost of just one additional seat. The report has received support from India, the current G20 presidency.
