Recently, the chemists at Indiana University have engineered a molecule that uses sunlight to convert carbon dioxide to fuel, which is one of the efficient carbon reduction processes till date. Here, the fuel that is generated is referred to as the carbon neutral fuel. CO2 gets converted to carbon monoxide, which is a primary fuel for most of the industrial processes. The materials used for this process are bipyridine-metal complexes that are believed to absorb much higher degree of solar energy and converting CO2 to carbon monoxide by using it. The research has been published in Journal of the American Chemical Society.
