India reconsiders graduate scholar policy

newscapsule_08_06_19(2)A committee of researchers has recommended the Indian government to modify its way long graduate scholar policy. If the country’s higher-education administrator approves the recommendations, it will not be obligatory for the PhD students to publish articles in academic journals before granted their doctorates. The committee has suggested the University Grants Commission (UGC) to entail universities to hold an examination mid-way into a PhD program to evaluate PhD candidates and indulge them to defend their thesis in an oral exam. The UGC has yet to accept the committee’s recommendation which is expected to respond in June.
