Extra virgin olive oil may protect against various dementias

newscapsule_2According to new research, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) can help keep the brain young. The superfood is rich in cell-protecting antioxidants that may reverse disease- or aging-related learning and memory impairment. The researchers previously found the oil preserves memory and protects the brain against Alzheimer’s disease. However, the latest study went a step further to find out if an EVOO-enriched diet could fight the build-up of toxic tau proteins that are found in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients and those with frontotemporal dementia. The study reveals the impact of EVOO in diets and provides the opportunity to learn more about the mechanisms through which acts to support brain health.
